JUNE 2025

Ben Vereen
Ben Vereen, the acclaimed Tony Award-winning performer, experienced a series of traumatic events in June 1992 that profoundly impacted his health and career.

On June 9, 1992, he was involved in a minor car accident in Malibu, California, hitting his head on the steering wheel. Later that day, while walking along the Pacific Coast Highway, he suffered a stroke and veered into traffic, where he was struck by a vehicle driven by music producer David Foster.

The accident left him with a broken leg, head trauma, and internal injuries. Doctors feared he might never walk again. But through intensive rehab, Vereen returned to the stage in just 10 months, playing the Chimney Man in Jelly’s Last Jam on Broadway.

In 2007, he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and has since become an advocate for healthy living and education, especially in the African American community.

Vereen’s resilience and artistic commitment have made him a lasting inspiration.
